Band falls short of expectations at WAC
The band performed at WAC, or the Western Athletic Conference, on Tuesday. The group played a medley of songs including songs like “Timber” by Pitbull and Kesha.
“Our songs where pretty solid,” junior Brittany Espinosa said. “We’ve been playing them for a while.”
The scoring goes from a V to a I. For their performance, the group received one III score and two II scores. Their open, declared score was a III.
“They ended up scoring us pretty weird,” senior Sally Lushbough said. “It was kind of disappointing.”
The band practices every maroon day and some mornings at 7:30 a.m. Espinosa said she felt not everyone took it as seriously as they needed to.
“We were striving to get for a I but it’s understandable why we didn’t get it,” Espinosa said. “There was a certain group who really weighed us down.”
Many of the students were upset with their ratings and felt they deserved better. Junior Sara Rohleder said the group performed as well as they always have.
“I think we did a lot better than the judges gave us,” Rohleder said. “It’s their point of view, but I feel like we deserved so much better.”

They gave us a three rating, but emailed Mr. Rome later saying that there was something wrong with the scores. By definition, we would have gotten a 2, based on the score total and how many of each we got. I was upset to be announced us as a 3. But we still have one other football game and FHSU Marching Festival.
