GSA spirit day to take place
The school organization Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) will be hosting a spirit day on Feb. 12. The theme will be rainbow day. All students are encouraged to participate and wear any rainbow clothing they may have. There will also be rainbow hands for students to sign and pledge their allegiance to the LGBTQ+ community. Bracelets will be also be available at the table outside lunch.
“The whole day is to raise awareness and to show that we’re all in this together no matter who you are,” senior Brianna Mathias said.
Mathias is the club president while sophomores Amiyah Gonzalez and Erin Adams are vice president and treasurer, respectively.
“We’ve worked really hard to try and make our club acceptable to all students,” Adams said. “I’m really proud of how it’s turned out and I really hope people participate and show their support to not only our club but all the LGBT students in the school.”

I am not happy at all about this LGBT day at all. I have advised my child not to go to school on Friday Feb. 12, 2016. If he does is his decision. I believe what the Bible says about gays and other un-natural sex acts. If the schools can ban christian activities from schools they can ban immoral acts an lifestyles also. I feel it is unfair to the students to have too recognize something that is immoral, if their christian beliefs are compromised. If christian activities are going to be banned then all things that do not pertain the standard education should be banned, ie sex education, Islamic teachings, abortion, etc. Stick to the basics and let moral and religious teachings return to the family.

Buddy, take a seat, cause I’m about to destroy you and your stupid beliefs. Fist off, I just wanna say that yes, this is America. Yes, you can speak your mind. That is your constitutional right. But, think about this: do you realize that what you’re saying infringes upon other people’s constitutional rights? Guess what dude!? The LGBT community deserves their Constitutional rights too!!! Think about that for a while. Meanwhile, believe in God all you want, whatever man. But I think if you really believe that God loves you, then if you had any common sense at all, you’d realize that he also loves those who find their love in a different way than you and I do. Just because you don’t follow a belief doesn’t give you the right to condemn it. You’re not “God”. You don’t get to deny someone their rights. If you’re gonna tell me that this “God” of yours doesn’t love all of his “creations”, then he’s no god of mine. If everything truly is part of God’s plan, then I do suppose that that includes the diversity of the human race’s sexuality. If you deny that then maybe you should go pick up your oh-so-precious bible and do some reading, cause obviously you don’t know God as well as you think you do. And while you’re at it, try pulling your tainted and outdated crucifix out of your rear end and take a look around. This is the 21st century dude. And as much as you’d like to lock your doors, draw your blinds, and continue to live in denial in this suppressive place known as Hays, America, you still have to make a choice. Either A: get educated about today’s world, learn to accept others, and have your opinion accepted by the rest of us, or B: continue letting old and outdated teachings and ideas cloud your judgment, and forfeit your ability to be taken seriously. Grow up, and wake up man.

Mr. Korbe, maybe you didn’t know that Christian activities are *not* banned at school. Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Bible Study, and praying at the pole are alive and well. The GSA doesn’t exist to belittle others. It exists so that students know there’s a safe place for them, away from the bullies who out of fear will twist their faith to justify persecuting those who stray from the norm.
You and I and many parents focus our lives on our faith and our children. When we feel like either or both are threatened, of course we will get defensive. I doubt anyone would have pressured your son into wearing rainbow garb; mine weren’t.
GSA Spirit Day could be considered an attack on Christianity only if we equate having blonde hair as an attack on wearing hats.
Next week is Spirit Week so students will be dressing up as Cowboys and princesses and punkers. Please don’t assume these days are attacks on vegetarians, democracy, or Mozart.
Peace to you.
