Veterinary science team receives top ranking

The Veterinary Science team of the Future Farmers of America took first at Wakeeny on Dec. 1.

Ranking at first with an individual score of 201 was junior Marie Reveles. Senior Rachel Pendergast claimed second with a score of 198.
“We take an exam about common things vets would know, do a math part which may include things like correct amount dosage and lots of conversions, then we do an ID portion where they show picture of breeds of animals, parasites or veterinarian tools and we have to name them,” Reveles said.
The competition proved to be a bit challenging to students, especially ones new to FFA.
“The most challenging part is leaning and knowing all the equipment and parasites,” freshman Elise Houseman said.
Some students involved studied in advance, so they were prepared for the competition.
“I felt very confident during the competition because Rachel Pendergast made quizzes for Mr. Vajnar of everything we had to know, and we each had to practice them all at least five times,” Reveles said.
Other students who placed were junior Laura Montgomery who took 10th with a score of 156, junior Katie Fross 17th, 145, Housman 36th, 117, and freshman Zoe Martin, 40th, 115.
“I credit my achievement to Mr. Vajnar, Rachel Pendergast, hard work and dedication,” Reveles said.
