Students thoughts on Royals’ World Series win

The Kansas City Royals ended their postseason on a good note this year, coming out as the World Series Champions, something that hasn’t happened in 30 years. The 7-2 victory came with a sneak attack by the Royals after a hit by Christian Colon that led to a five-run rally in the top of the 12th inning.

The first four victories by the Royals came from behind. After gaining two wins at home, they won two out of three games in New York. It was a comeback year for them, and they unexpectedly won eight of their postseason games.

Though the win for the Royals may have been unexpected, the team’s fans believed they would pull through and come out on top. Junior Grant Coffman was one of those fans.

“I expected them to win,” Coffman said. “They went pretty far last year.”

Since Coffman has been a fan since he was little, he was very excited when they won the game.

“I was also tired,” Coffman said. “I was up late the nights before, watching their other games.”

Since the Royals hadn’t won the World Series since 1985, it wasn’t very likely that they would go as far. The last few years have changed the minds of many people. More people have started jumping on the bandwagon because of how the last few seasons have gone.

Based on the outcomes of the last few seasons, some fans may have higher expectations for the years to come. Sophomore Corey Hale said he isn’t sure on how he thinks they will do.

“It depends on who is playing and how the Royals and other teams do.” Hale said.

To show pride for their hometown baseball team, the music group Tech N9ne wrote a song about the championship win. Listen here.
