District KMEA Orchestra qualifiers
Every year the students who try out for the District Kansas Music Educators Association Orchestra await anxiously to know whether they got in or not. This year, 12 students from the school were accepted and ranked based on a recording they sent in. From the district 80 students auditioned while 66 got in.
Three students were placed as principal players, meaning they had the top score in their section. Junior Tanner Callis was placed as principal player in the cello section, junior Eric Rorstrom was placed as principal player in the viola section while sophomore Trinity Callis was placed as the concert master.
The other students who qualified were senior Kaylee Brin, juniors Marie Reveles and Kody Custine, sophomores Amiyah Gonzalez, Brendan Chapman, Dawson Rooney, Skylar Weilert and Eric Adams and freshman Alexandria Hagerman.
Students who auditioned had to play a three-octave scale, an excerpt from Brahm piece and a part of “An American Folk Symphony” by Bishop.
The concert will be Saturday, Dec. 5 at FHSU, and the group will be performing four songs. Joining the orchestra at the concert are the students who qualified for district choir and district band.
