ACT test results in opinions from students

During high school, many students will take the ACT for the first time that will somewhat determine further educations to get into college.

However, some students feel it isn’t fair that one test will rate their abilities in school.

“I don’t like that getting into college is based off of one test,” senior Amanda Miller said. “And we aren’t even really being prepped to take the test except a few prep classes.”

Hays High offers some tools to help prep for the ACT such as an ACT prep class in October as well as practice test links and information about testing that can be found on Hays High Website.

“I will probably be doing the questions of the day,” junior Jeanie Balzer said.

Junior Hannah Norris said she will most likely be taking lots of practice tests.

“For some people it’s a good source to see how well your knowledge is,” Norris said. “But some who aren’t good test takers might struggle. I will be taking lots of practice tests to help me prepare for the ACT.”

There are some students who agree that it isn’t fair one test can test their knowledge as a whole, but it could be because some students aren’t good at taking tests in general.

“Some people aren’t good at tests,” junior Josh Bryant said. “It shouldn’t be based off of one test. Only in some aspects though.”

Senior Chelsea Augustine thinks the ACT is irrelevant.

“I get what they are trying to portray but it’s sort of dumb,” Augustine said.

The ACT can be a stressful thing for some students but it is meant to be a bit of a help as well.

“In some categories it can tell you how much you know at the time,” sophomore Kelli Buxton said. “But not the capability you have to learn.”
