The Maroon and Gold Kickoff will be at 6:00 p.m. on August 28 at Lewis Field Stadium. The event is used to introduce fall athletes as well as a soccer and football scrimmage.

Fall sports include cross country, tennis, volleyball, football, girls golf and boys soccer.

Students can bring their student ID in order to get in and eat hamburgers and beverages for free. Anyone is welcome to come.

Staff and students are looking forward to the new season consisting of new players as well as new coaches.

“Maroon and Gold is a time for new beginnings,” assistant Principal Tom Albers said. “There are a lot of new players and coaches this year.”

New football coach Randall Rath is looking forward to coaching the Indians this year.

“This is a really inexperienced team,” Rath said. “We will continue to improve all season and get better each week.”

Rath also said he is excited how the new young men are working and grasping the new system.

“The coaches are doing a tremendous job of learning,” Rath said. “As well as teaching these young men to play.”

This year, Kelli Karlin will be the head coach for the golf team.

“It’s going to be a rebuilding year for the golf team this year,” Karlin said. “But we have some very hard working girls this year.”

As well as new coaches and players, many seniors will be returning for a fourth season of sports.

“This will be my fourth and last year of tennis,” senior Fengxue (Sylina) Zhang said. “Tennis has really helped me to grow as an athlete and person and I will definitely keep the memories made for the rest of my life.”

Senior Taylor Groen-Younger can relate.

“I am glad I have played volleyball for four years,” Groen- Younger said. “And Maroon and Gold Kickoff is a good opportunity to bond and get recognized as a team.”

Maroon and Gold Kickoff is a good way to become closer with your team mates and get to know one another.

“It is an awesome thing to see the kids improve and take new opportunities and roles,” athletic director Chris Michaelis said. “And our school is a good way to represent and entertain.”
