Students in yearbook and newspaper will be competing at state competition in Lawrence on May 2 for scoring well in the previous contest (regionals) in March.

“I’m excited to go because it will be my first time competing in the state journalism competition,” junior Kylie Brown said.

Some students sent in work to be judged while others will be writing and or editing physically in Lawrence.

There are also students who are in multiple events like junior Morgan Klaus.

“I am in sports photography, student life photography, yearbook theme and development, yearbook sports writing and newspaper sports writing,” Klaus said.

A lot of preparation and work was put into entries being sent to judge.

“I had to take two photos and send them in,” Klaus said. “And also work with Kylie to finish our layout design.”

Instructor Bill Gasper is happy to have his students compete.

“I like to see my students succeed and compete further,” Gasper said. “It makes me happy to see.”
