Seniors express feelings towards last semester of high school
Growing up, many students have often heard high school is supposed to be the “best time of their lives”. For the 2015 seniors, the best time of their lives is almost over.
Senior Kristyn Hodny thinks this semester being her last one of high school is bittersweet.
“I’m excited for next year, but want it to be over,” Hodny said. “When it is over, I know I’ll be sad. We have a strong class, and we are a good group of friends. I’m sad to see us all go our separate ways.”
Senior Abby Henry is relieved and excited to be almost done with high school.
“I never liked it, it was boring,” Henry said. “But I will miss certain teachers.”
Senior Trenton Flora is going to miss the people from high school but not high school itself.
Senior Konner Buxton is not going to miss high school at all.
“It’s just high school,” Buxton said. “There’s nothing too great about it. But I will miss seeing some people.”
Senior Summer Smith is going to miss some parts of high school, but she’s ready for something new.
“I’m kind of sad,” Smith said. “I’ll miss my friends and sports but I’m excited for college and meeting new people. I’ll miss playing sports the most.”
Senior Shelby Berens is excited this is her last semester of high school, but is also scared for all of the changes ahead.
“I will miss some things about high school, but people have told me that college is more fun,” Berens said. “But I know when I look back on high school, I will think of it as a fun time. I’m moving on to bigger and better things.”
Hodny’s favorite memory from high school is homecoming week.
“Being a homecoming candidate was really fun,” Hodny said.
Smith’s favorite memory is placing in state track, and at the DECA conference.
“I’ll never forget placing in state track last year and placing in the top 32 at the DECA Conference,” Smith said.
Flora’s favorite memory from high school is playing football while Berens’ favorite memory is participating in the musical and spring play.
Henry’s favorite memory from high school is going to the Fort Hays art show every year.
Next year Henry plans to move out and save up money to move out of state.
Hodny plans to attend Kansas State University, but has not decided on a major.
“I’ll figure it out as I go,” Hodny said. “ I know I’m going to be doing the family studies program.”
Smith plans to attend Kansas State University as well, with a degree in hospitality management and a minor in leadership. Then she plans to attend Manhattan Christian College.
Flora is going to Fort Hays for a major in Psychology.
“I’ll probably go to Wichita next year, but I don’t have any set major or plans.” Berens said.
Smith thinks this last semester has been easier for her but not easy, though she says she can’t complain too much about it.
“High school has been great,” Smith said.
