Sophomores and seniors take survey

Sophomore and seniors participated today in the 2015 Kansas Communities That Care Student Survey. The survey covered topics that involved drug and alcohol abuse, concealed carry, and scholarly matters.

“I answered the survey honestly,” sophomore Alanna Hansen said. “I found it to be a waste of my time, and I think half of the school might have answered honestly. I love that it gives funding to the school but the actual questions take so long.”

The survey lasted around 140 questions, and students answered them during their seminar time.

“It seemed like the dumbest thing,” sophomore Cameron Jensen said. “It repeated the same questions over and over again.”

Sophomore Caitlyn Scheck and Angel Bryant agreed it was repetitive.

“I had to say that I’d never done heroin like seven times.” Scheck said.

Seniors interviewed had similar opinions.

“It was pointless to me,” senior Abby Shubert said. “I honestly didn’t read most of the questions. Just clicked.”

Senior Allyson Flax spoke of how she believed very few people used genuine honesty to answer the survey.

“It was so redundant.” senior Britney Werth said. “I was constantly asked if I was in a gang. I don’t know how many times I said no. I mean, think about where we live.”

Not everyone was negative about the school survey. Some, like sophomore Quinn Buffington, found it beneficial.

“I’m not saying I enjoyed the long survey,” Buffington said. “But it really helps out the school financially. We get funding from it. So, to me, why not take it? It’s just long.”
