Celebrities are influential in today’s society
Celebrities in today’s society are influential on what young people do and think.
“Everybody looks up to them,” senior Bailee Leiker said. “They have such a big spot light.”
Junior Rachel Stritt thinks actors and actresses have such an influence on people because they portray some of the characteristics we wish we could have, such as looks and personality. So people try to mimic them.
“I attempt at copying their fashion styles,” Stritt said.
Sophomore Tiana Lawson thinks actors and actresses have a great influence over us and what we do.
“We like the movies or TV shows they star in, and we see them more as the characters they play rather than the person they are,” Lawson said.
Leiker doesn’t think celebrities are usually influential to her.
“I don’t know if they are,” Leiker said. “I might see a hairdo on one and think I want my hair like that, but I don’t want to be like them.”
Lawson doesn’t think actors or actresses have influenced what she does very much either.
“I don’t think there is any fad they have started I have followed,” Lawson said. “I’m not that obsessed with actors or actresses. The only way they have influenced me is if I see my favorite actor or actresses likes a certain song, I will go and check out that song.”
Sophomore Ana Goodlett follows fads in clothing celebrities wear.\
“If I see something an actress is wearing that I really like I may buy something similar,” Goodlet said.
Goodlett also thinks celebrities can be idolized too much.
“It depends on the person,” Goodlett said “Girls tend to go crazy over male celebrities.”
Lawson feels some teens idolize celebrities too much, but some teens could care less about certain actors or actresses.
Sophomore Hannah Unrein also thinks people idolize celebrities too much.
“They’re not better than someone who isn’t famous,” Unrein said.
Stritt thinks there is nothing wrong with idolizing someone as long as they have good morals.
“A bad person to idolize would be Miley Cyrus, for obvious reasons,” Stritt said.
Leiker also feels celebrities deserve all the attention and idolization they get, as long as they’re not bad.
“At the beginning they deserve the attention they get, but if they turn bad they don’t deserve it anymore,” Leiker said. “For example; Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Lindsay Lohan.”
Goodlett thinks some actors and actresses deserve the attention they get, but some do not.\
“Some of them get attention because of the destruction they cause, or ridiculous acts they do, but I think if an actor or actress is polite and respectable to others they deserve the attention,” Goodlett said.
Lawson feels celebrities don’t deserve the idolization they get.
“I don’t think they deserve as much attention as they are getting, and people probably shouldn’t idolize them because they’re not really doing anything that’s doing good, but that’s just my opinion.” Lawson said.

1. She’s a White Girl Who Can Twerk
Most girls can’t actually twerk. You either can or you can’t. Twerking is a rare talent and if a girl has it, she’s probably not white. But Miley is the exception to this rule because she manages to basically unhinge her butt in her “We Can’t Stop” music video and gives hope to rhythm-less white girls, like myself.
2. She Can Actually Sing
People like to automatically brand pop singers as lip-synching auto-tune junkies, but Miley’s new album Bangerz completely debunks that claim. Songs on the album like “Wrecking Ball“ or “#GETITRIGHT” show how Miley has a set of pipes that are a force to be reckoned with. And for those of you who still don’t believe me, check out Miley’s Backyard Sessions on YouTube, where she sings acoustic version of old country songs. Her version of “Lilac Wine” or “Jolene ” legit make me tear up. Oh, and let’s all not forget about how she birthed my favorite song ever: “Party In the U.S.A.”. You’re just lying to yourself if you say you don’t like that song.
3. Looks Amazing, No Matter What
Everyone may hate Miley’s new style or hair-do, but I love it. No one in the world can pull off little blonde hair nuggets or a red onesie except for Miley. If I wore that ensemble, I would look like a punk rock version of Ellen DeGeneres. Granted Miley looked amazing before with her long, dark hair, but Miley 2.0 is way more gorgeous than Miley Cyrus a la Hannah Montana. Also, if you watched her impersonate Michelle Bachmann on Saturday Night Live , Miley also manages to make sexy grandma clothes fashionable.
4. She Doesn’t Care
If you hate Miley, well then too bad, because she doesn’t care what people think of her, and her recent behavior and new music is a testament to that. Her twerking up on Robin Thicke at the VMAs was just her way of saying that Hannah Montana was murdered by that foam finger. I wish I was cool enough to have a rebirth period like Miley, but let’s be honest, the biggest change us Terp girls experience is when we finally realize side bangs are a terrible idea, for everyone.
5. She Acts How a 20-Year-Old Girl Should
Everyone needs to stop saying that Miley is a ‘role model’, because she’s not and doesn’t want to be. Her days of being a goody two-shoes Disney Channel star are gone. She’s in the time of her life where she is allowed to act reckless, sing about her ex-boyfriend, and wear crazy, yet retro chic clothes, and I respect her for that. Heck, all twenty-year-old girls should go through a fearless, independent, crazy stage.
