American Horror Story: Freak Show debuted last night

Last night, the fourth season of American Horror Story on FX, debuted. The high ranking show drew in a large amount of viewers, some of which came from our school.

“I love the new story of this season and I’m always surprised at the new twisted things that happen,” senior Emily McPherson said.

This season’s theme is Freak Show.

“I loved it,” junior Morgan Elstun said. “I respect Ryan Murphy so much for using real people with actual disabilities.”

The audience watched as Elsa Mars, portrayed by Jessica Lange, was introduced with her gaggle of “monsters”, which are actually side acts of circus freak show.

“It was messed up,” sophomore Leah Huxman said. “I was actually scared at certain points.”

As well as the introduction of the freaks, last night’s episode followed a crazed clown who ran around kidnapping and attacking people.

“I have never been so scared of a clown,” sophomore Sierra Brown said. “But I think he will end up being my favorite. It’s kind of cool, really.”

Some students weren’t quite as fond of the premiere as others, though.

“I was slightly disappointed,” sophomore Hannah Norris said. “I thought it was really inappropriate, too. I want a good story line.”

Brown did also state that the episode was uncomfortable to watch with her parents due to certain themes.

“I don’t think I’d ever dislike the show for any reason,” junior Isabelle Lee said. “It’d have to be pretty awful before I’d ever criticize it. The premiere lived up to my expectations, and I’m very pumped for next week.”
