New tennis coach adds improvements
Bryce McClung is the new coach for the boys and girls tennis team, replacing last year’s coach Megan Quinleg.
McClung became the coach because he wanted to give back to the school that started his love for tennis.
McClung first started playing tennis when he was a freshman at Hays High. His first three years as a player he played doubles, but during his last year, he played singles. He has been playing tennis for a total of six years.
One of the only things McClung wants to change this year about tennis is how much the team conditions.
“I want to make sure all the girls are in shape,” McClung said. “That’s probably the biggest thing. Nothing else is really going to change from the last year, just a lot of conditioning.”
Another change involve the implementation of a ladder system. With the ladder system, players can challenge others ahead of them to move their way up on the team.
“When I was a senior, my coach did that to me and I thought it was a great idea,” McClung said.
McClung thinks this season will be a fun one. He is most excited about teaching the girls new things, and all the girls are learning everything very quickly.
“A lot of them haven’t played a whole lot of tennis,” McClung said. “If they have, then they don’t have perfect form. I think form is going to be the most exciting thing to teach to them.”
