Divergent movie review

Divergent+movie+review

On March 21, the best-selling book Divergent by Veronica Roth premiered in theaters. Divergent, the book, has over 500 pages and in those pages a lot of action occurs.

Since I read the book before watching the movie, I was disappointed on how much was left out. Turning a large book into a two and a half hour movie is a hard task but I was hoping for more detail. When talking with my friend who has also read the book, the list of what was missing from the movie was endless.

Also, my expectations for this movie were very high and therefore I was let down by an imperfect movie I imagined as perfect.

I think some details, even if they were small, add to the relationships between the characters. When reading the book, Peter was depicted as a terrible person but in the movie he was just seen as a know it all initiate. Leaving out the part in the book where Peter stabs Edward in the eye with a butter knife really tells something about his character.

Also, I think the transition in Tris and Four’s relationship was too sudden. The movie missed the in-between.

Although there were missing parts and differences in the movie from the book, I thought the actual setting was perfect. The way the factions were in the movie was exactly how I saw it when I was reading.

I think the actors fit their characters perfectly. I expected more from this movie but I am still satisfied with its turnout.

It is a great story and is still fun to watch whether you read the book before watching it or not.
