Students recognize special days of the year

The year is full of many special “holidays” that not many people are aware of, such as National Pie Day, National Hat Day, Dress Up Your Pet Day, Friendship Day, or Sisters Day.

Some students have days that they recognize.

“Little known fact, Sept. 18 is two national holidays: Kaelan’s Birthday and National Cheeseburger Day,” junior Kaelan Dietze said. “I celebrate both of those with great pride.”

Dietze also celebrates National Egg Nog Day on Dec 24.

“I like egg nog,” Dietze said.

Freshman Madison Crees always tries to participate in the annual Day of Silence, which is usually in April.

“What this holiday is a day of action to protest the bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students and their supporters,” Crees said. “Students take a day-long vow of silence to symbolically represent the silencing of those students and their supporters.”

Senior Kaden Beilman said there is no particular day that he knows of.

“I don’t really celebrate any special holidays,” Beilman said. “It’s too hard to memorize dates of normal holidays as it is, so adding more little ones just gets really confusing.”

Junior Kristina Herl said she goes online to find out which days occur when.

“I look up special holidays since I don’t memorize when they are,” Herl said.

The day that Herl sometimes participates in is Subway Day.

“If I see that it is Subway Day I’ll go to Subway and get a sandwich,” Herl said.
