Chamber Singers to sing at Cathedral Concert

Christmas music is arguably one of the most prevalent and memorable things about the season. Holiday concerts and programs are in abundance in this community. The Cathedral Concert, which will be held at St. Fidelis Cathedral in Victoria this Sunday, December 8, at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., is one such program.

“The concert is put on by FHSU,” vocal director Johnny Matlock said. “The Chamber Singers were invited to sing on the concert by FHSU choral director Dr. Terry Crull. It’s really become a community concert.”

Matlock said he loved the whole concert.

“It’s just great music through the whole thing,” he said.

Senior Raeanna Peacock shared her perspective.

“This will be my third year singing in the Cathedral Concert,” Peacock said. “My favorite part is watching the other choirs perform and hearing the echo of our music. I love that I not only get to perform, but I get to listen, too, so I get the perspective of both the audience and the performer.”

Senior Shelby Matlock said her favorite part of the concert was the cathedral itself. “It’s beautiful and a great place to sing in,” Matlock said.

Junior Quin Brungardt had a slightly different perspective.

“The reverb of the cathedral is awesome,” Brungardt said. You get to hear yourself on the ending note.”

This year will be the first time sophomore Jared Thom will sing the cathedral concert at the high school level.

“I’ve done it for three years with Singing Irish-Falcoms, but I have not done it with high school,” he said. “I think it will be a little more mature singing with the Chamber Singers.”
