NHS elects new officers
Each school year, student organizations must decide which students will lead them for the next nine months. National Honor Society is no exception.
On Sept. 9, after an organizational meeting to nominate candidates for offices and a four-day voting period by secret ballot, the members of National Honor Society were notified of their new officers in an email.
Lisa Colwell, NHS sponsor, described the duties of the officers.
“”The officers will be in charge of induction,” Colwell said. “The president will conduct meetings and help organize the different projects we do throughout the year, and the vice president will run the meetings in the president’s absence.
”The secretary will keep the minutes for each meeting, the treasurer will keep track of the money and help with any fundraising we do, and the historian is responsible for updating chapter files and keeping track of the projects we’re working on.”
NHS president, senior Jessie Carmichael, said she was a little nervous about her new position.
“I suppose that’s probably normal when something important falls to you,” Carmichael said. “I’ll commit myself to it, and hopefully live up to the responsibility. I never considered the possibility that I might be nominated, let alone voted in. It was certainly a surprise, but it was a welcome one.”
Senior Reagan Kaiser is this year’s treasurer.
“Apparently people trust me with money,” Kaiser said.
Colwell expressed her confidence in the new officers.
“I think they’ll be awesome,” Colwell said. “When you have elections, kids know who’ll do a good job. They elected in some good workers.”
