The lady Indian softball team played in Hays in a double-header against the Thomas More Prep (TMP) Monarchs on May 1.
In the first game against the Monarchs, Hays scored one run in the second inning, two runs in the third inning, three runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the seventh inning. Senior Riley Dreher and freshman Brynlee Rupp scored three runs for the team while senior Alyse Zimmerman scored two runs for the team. Senior Lauren Klein, senior Avery Solida and sophomore Brynlee Brous also scored one run each for the team. The ending score of the game was 13-11, with the Monarchs taking the win.
In the second game against the Monarchs, the Indians scored one run in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore Adalie Kippes scored two runs for the team while junior Jaylee Summers, Rupp, Klein and sophomore Shea Augustine scored one run each for the team. The ending score of the game was 6-3, with the Indians coming out on top.
“I was pleased to see the girls get themselves going on the offense,” head coach Abby Gillian said. “The come back in Game 2 was amazing, and I’m glad the girls did it.”
