On Tuesday, Oct. 8, the Hays High varsity girls golf team competed at the Lake Barton Golf Course in the Great Bend Invitational golf tournament.
Hays placed third as a team with a 377. Senior Jaycee Oakley led the Indians, shooting a 76 and placing first individually. Junior Liz Dreiling placed sixth with a 95, and freshman Kinley Pfannenstiel finished right behind in a tie for seventh with 101. Junior Lily Butler placed 11th with a 105, and junior Liz Cunningham placed 13th with a 108. Junior Ava Erbert and senior Elizabeth Noble tied for 15th with 111.
Moving on, the lady Indians competed in the Garden City Invitational at the Southwind Country Club on Oct. 10. Hays placed second overall with a 392. Oakley led the Indians once again, placing third individually with an 82. Pfannenstiel placed seventh with a 99, Erbert tied for ninth with 102, Dreiling tied for 13th with 109, Cunningham placed 15th with a 110, Butler placed 16th with a 114 and Noble placed 17th with a 119.
Most recently, the team competed in the Hutchinson 5A Regional at the Carey Park Golf Course on Oct. 14. Hays placed first as a team with a 365, and Oakley placed second individually, shooting an 81. Dreiling placed fifth with an 89, Erbert placed eighth with a 97, Pfannenstiel placed 14th with a 103, Butler tied for 18th with 113 and Cunningham placed 23rd with a 117. All the girls qualified for the state tournament and will compete in Salina on Oct. 21-22.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to go to state,” Cunningham said. “I hope to be able to go back next year.”
