Wrestling teams compete in Rocky Welton Invitational

Heading into the Rocky Welton tournament in Garden City on Feb. 8, the Indian wrestling teams attempted to keep a successful season.

The girls wrestling team took third collectively, having one champion, two second-place finishers and nine Top 6 placers. Junior Tionna Napue won by fall over Valeria Leon from Garden City. Following her, senior Lexi Barnett and senior Lexi Burton placed second. Freshman Timber Lovewell placed third, and in fourth place were senior Addison Otte and sophomore Reese Vehige. After them were freshman Keyla Macias in fifth, freshman Addison Neuburger in sixth and sophomore Alyssa Harding in eighth. `

The boys also wrestled that same day at the Rocky Welton tournament. As senior Harley Zimmerman sustained his unbeaten record this season, it was not enough for the team to bring any hardware back for the team competition. Zimmerman led the Indians in first place. Junior Dalton Meyers placed sixth, sophomore Johnathan Rigler finished seventh and senior Elijah McCullough ended eighth.

With the season drawing to a close soon, the Indian girls wrestlers competed at regionals on Feb. 9-10 while the Indian boys wrestlers went to their last tournament in Colby on Feb. 9.
