Indian baseball takes on Gardner-Edgerton April 22
On Saturday, April 22, the Hays High Indian baseball team matched up against the Gardner-Edgerton Trail Blazers.
After a scoreless inning from the Indians, Gardner-Edgerton took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Trail Blazers kept it going, scoring again in the bottom of the second to take the lead, 3-0.
In the third inning, the Indians fought back with two runs in the top of the third inning. Gardner-Edgerton scored a run in the fourth inning, followed by a scoreless fifth inning. The Trail Blazers caught fire in the sixth inning, scoring six runs and ending the game 10-2.
Senior Greg Hughes was the starting pitcher for the Indians, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in 5.2 innings, with one walk and six strikeouts. Junior Nolan Dreher closed for the Indians, allowing one hit and two earned runs in .1 innings, with two walks and one strikeout. Seniors Toby May and Hughes each had one hit for the Indians, and Hughes and junior Cooper Sanders each had an RBI.
The Indians moved to 5-4 on the year, playing Paola High School next.
