Indian baseball team takes on De Soto, St. James Academy
On Friday, April 21, the Indian baseball team played against De Soto High School and St. James Academy.
After two scoreless innings against De Soto, both teams earned a run in the third inning. The De Soto Wildcats then exploded with a big three-run inning in the fourth and one more run in the sixth.
Senior Carson Spray took to the mound for Hays High, where he allowed six hits and five runs in six innings. Juniors Cooper Sanders and Jack Weimer each got two hits, and junior Lex Lummus and senior Derrik Riggs each got one hit; senior Bradyn Dreher also earned a run batted in (RBI). The Indians fell short of the Wildcats, 5-1.
Against the St. James Academy Thunder, the Indians struggled from the start, giving up four runs in the first inning. After going scoreless again, Hays found themselves down 5-0 going into the third inning. Things did not get much better for the Indians, as they gave up eight runs in the third and two runs in the fourth before the game was over in five innings.
Sophomore Carter Graham started for the Indians, giving up seven hits and eight runs with one strikeout. Sophomore Cooper Johnson closed the game, giving up six hits and seven runs. Spray, Lummus and Graham all earned one hit in the match. The Indians lost the match, 15-0.
The Indians moved to 5-3 on the year, playing Gardner-Edgerton next.
