Boys tennis goes to Garden City, Hays, Scott City

In the past two weeks, the Hays High School boys tennis team has been busy with practices and meets.

On Monday, April 3 in Garden City, Ethan Dague, Leo Hernandez, Corbin Luck, Preston Parr, Mason Schleicher and Madox Zimmerman competed, with Hernandez and Luck medaling in No. 1 Doubles and Parr and Schleicher placing in No. 2 Doubles.

Going to Scott City on April 6, the team sent Colin Clark in No. 1 Singles, Xavier Catura in No. 2 Singles, Kaiden Bunger and Henry Fitzthum in No. 1 Doubles and Kale Schwien and Ken Shaffer in No. 2 Doubles. Everyone went undefeated in the pool play games and finished with the silver medals.

In the Hays meet on Easter Monday, April 10, competitors included Bunger, Catura, Fitzthum, Parr, Schleicher, Schwien and Shaffer, in addition to Logan Chance, Will Linenberger, Carsen Riat and Jack Scoby. Catura and Fitzthum took home the gold in No. 1 Doubles, Schwien and Shaffer also placed first in No. 2 Doubles and Parr and Schleicher finished as runners-up in No. 2 Doubles.

Ending the first two weeks of tennis, the junior varsity played in Hays, with Tacoma Augustine, Kalle Boergers, Levi Crisenberry, Dague, Kenny Fisher, Tyler Huynh, Logan Schmidt, Dylan Shuck, Connor Stanton and Zimmerman competing. Boergers and Fisher earned first place in No. 2 Doubles, defeating Shuck and Stanton in the finals.
