Lady Indians challenge Wichita teams for substate championship
In their postseason games, the Hays High lady Indians basketball team took on Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Bishop Carroll, both from Wichita.
For their first game on March 1, the Indians faced the KMC Crusaders. Entering the game, the team knew it would be a tough match, with the Indians having just one more win than the Crusaders.
This proved to be true, as Hays fought off KMC throughout the game, but in the end, the lady Indians were able to hold off the Crusaders in overtime. The game ended with the score being 53-52, allowing Hays to advance to the sub-state championship.
In that game against Bishop Carroll, the Eagles were the No. 1 seed in the 5A West substate division, and Hays fell to BC, 67-32.
This loss finished the Indians’ title run and winter season, with a record of 14-8.
