Boys basketball finishes season at substate

The Hays High School boys basketball team had its first substate game on Wednesday, March 1 against Great Bend at home, winning 46-42 over the conference rival Panthers. Senior Devin Schmidtberger had a career-high 15 points on five three-point shots, and junior Jack Weimer hit the go-ahead three-point shot with 1.3 seconds remaining to propel the Indians to a victory.

In winning that game, Hays High advanced to the substate championship on Saturday, March 4 against Kapaun Mt. Carmel of Wichita on the road. The Indians fell to the Crusaders, 75-46, with Weimer leading the Indians with 10 points.

The boys finished the season with 13-9 record overall.
