Cross country competes at state in Lawrence
On Saturday, Oct. 29, seniors Jaycine Watson and Avery Winter, juniors Brenlynn Albers, Brynn Kinderknecht, Arely Maldonado and Mika Zimmerman and freshman Cara Cunningham competed for the girls team and junior Elijah McCullough competed for the boys team at the 3A-6A state cross country meet in Lawrence.
The first to cross the finish line for the state-qualifying girls’ team was Maldonado. She placed 43rd overall with a time of 20:54:00. Behind her finished Albers, who placed 60th overall with a time of 21:35:00.
McCullough was the only runner who qualified for state from the boys’ team. He placed 57th overall with a time of 17:43:00.
“I’m so proud of our team as a whole,” Albers said. “Everyone has improved so much since the beginning of the season, and we’ve grown so much closer.”
