Indian football crushes Liberal at home
The Hays High Indian football team faced off against the Liberal Redskins on Oct. 14 at Hays. Hays came in with a record of 5-1, and Liberal came in with a record of 2-4.
The Indians continued their trend of starting off the game electric, as they scored early with a short touchdown run by junior running back Malik Bah. After a quick stop, Hays marched down the field yet again with a touchdown run by senior quarterback Kyreese Groen to make the score 15-0 after a successful two-point conversion. After another great defensive stop, the Indians continued to pull away with a touchdown by senior Bryce Salmans to make the score 22-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Hays did not show mercy, with Bah scampering in for another touchdown early from 26 yards out. After an interception by senior Deondre Broom, Groen found sophomore Johnathan Cano in the back of the endzone for a touchdown. Soon after, many starters, including Groen, were benched, and junior varsity players saw the field. Before halftime, Bah entered the endzone for the third time of the day, and the score showed 43-0, Hays up at halftime.
In the second half, Hays started off with yet another score by sophomore Carter Graham. After multiple scoreless drives by both teams, Liberal scored to make the score 50-6. After one more Hays touchdown, Liberal scored one more as well, and the final score of the game posted as a Hays victory of 56-12.
After Friday’s game, Hays came out with a record of 6-1, and they look to travel to play the 1-6 Topeka Trojans on Oct. 21.
