Girls cross country kicks off season in first meet

On Thursday, Sept. 1, Hays High girls cross country competed in their first meet at the Great Bend Invitational. The team placed third overall with a total of 84 points.

The first to cross the finish line for Hays was junior Arely Maldonado, who placed sixth overall with a time of 21:49:00. She was followed by junior Brenlynn Albers, who placed 10th overall with a time of 22:12:00.

“Right now, the team is pretty average, time-wise,” Albers said. “I just can’t wait to see how much the team improves by the end of the season.”

“My favorite part about this meet was seeing how much I’ve improved since last year,” junior Mika Zimmerman said.
