Both the girls and the boys wrestling teams finished their seasons with state competitions from Feb. 23 to Feb. 26.

On Feb. 23 and 24, the Kansas State High School Activities Association held the girls state tournament, with 5A and 6A being at Park City’s Hartman Arena. Qualifying for state were sophomore Lexi Burton, sophomore Katie Gutierrez, sophomore Addison Otte and junior Sarah Zimmerman.

Among the four, Zimmerman was the state runner-up by earning second in her weight class, and Burton finished sixth in her weight class.

For the boys’ side, the state tournament was held on Feb. 25 and 26, also in Park City. Eight wrestlers had qualified for state, including sophomores Elijah McCullough and Harley Zimmerman, juniors Aaron Weigel and Cyrus Vajnar and seniors Dalton Dale, Brayden Hines, Gavin Meyers and Gavin Nutting.

Of those eight, Meyers finished at the 5A state champion at 220 lbs. after pinning all four of his opponents and ended his season undefeated, and Harley Zimmerman placed second as the 5A state runner-up at 132 lbs.
