Indians lose last game of regular season play against Wichita Northwest
The Indian football team traveled to Wichita to take on Wichita Northwest on Friday, Oct. 22, but lost 61-40.
The Indians fell behind Wichita Northwest quickly, with a 20-0 scoring gap within the first 10 minutes of the game.
The Indians fumbled, which led to a defensive touchdown for the Grizzlies and put the Indians behind even more.
Hays High was able to score on its next five possessions, and the score moved to 20-19 in favor of the Grizzlies.
Two more touchdowns were in the Indians favor before halftime, which allowed them to go into halftime with a 33-27 lead.
Senior Jaren Kanak was hurt in one of the first plays of the second half, which resulted in him not playing the rest of the game.
The Indians only added one more touchdown for a 40-27 lead, but the Grizzlies responded with scores on the next five drives, putting the Indians behind for the rest of the game.
Hays High is now 6-2 on the season and will host Goddard Eisenhower on Thursday, Oct. 28 for the first round of playoffs.
