Indians hold off Mavericks to win on Homecoming
On Oct. 15, the Indian football team hosted the Maize South Mavericks, and the Indians were able to win 47-43, by holding off the Mavericks from scoring on the last play of the game.
The Indians started off strong, with three back-to-back touchdowns in the first quarter, while they held Maize South to zero points.
During the second quarter, the Mavericks were able to score two touchdowns, and the Indians were held to one touchdown of their own, and the score going into halftime was 26-14 in favor of Hays High.
The Indians were held to no third quarter points, and this allowed the Mavericks to take the lead, 29-26.
The fourth quarter was filled with touchdowns from both teams, with the Indians taking the score to 47-43, with less than a minute left on the clock. The Mavericks were able to start a scoring drive, but their passes were unsuccessful, leaving the Indians with a win.
The Indians are now 6-1 on the season and will travel to Wichita Northwest on Oct. 22 for their next game.
