On Saturday, Oct. 2, the cross country team traveled to Milford Lake to compete in the meet hosted by Junction City. Clay Center, Hutchison, Junction City, Salina Central, Salina South and St. Marys were the other teams that competed.

The girls team placed second overall and was led by sophomore Arely Maldonado. Maldonado and sophomore Brenlynn Albers placed in the Top 10 of the varsity race while the junior varsity had four runners placing in the Top 10.

“I thought the course was the toughest one we have ran yet,” junior Amelia Jaeger said. “I think it was mentally challenging but was a good meet for our team. Most of our runners medaled, which is exciting!”

The boys team placed fifth overall and was led by sophomore Leo Hernandez. With a time of 18:21:00, he placed seventh in the varsity race. The junior varsity race had two runners place in the Top 10.

“It’s a tough course, but overall, I think that myself and the team did really well,” said senior Brayden Hines, who laced 21st in the race with a time of 19:33:00.
