The Indians defensive line stands and observes while the offense is participating in the annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage and the Jamboree. The defensive line is led by a majority of juniors and seniors.

The Indian football team started its regular season on Friday, Sept. 3 with a win over Wichita East, 35-6.

After a few plays, senior Jaren Kanak scored a touchdown on a 56-yard run, followed by senior Jack Fields scoring the point after touchdown (PAT).

The first half was silent for the Indian offense, but that changed when the third quarter hit. Sophomore Malik Bah scored a 12-yard touchdown, followed by another touchdown from Kanak.

Kanak scored a third touchdown of the night late in the third quarter, followed by senior Jordan Dale’s 98-yard touchdown run. These touchdowns pushed the score to 35-6, and that is how the game ended.

Kanak ran 240 yards and three touchdowns while throwing for 166 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

The Indians move to 1-0 on the season and will open their Western Athletic Conference games by hosting their rivals, the Great Bend Panthers, on Sept. 10.
