Boys tennis face tough competition at regionals.

On Saturday May 8, the boys tennis team competed in Valley Center for regionals. The team brought out senior Edgar Alonso, senior Gabe Garcia, junior Ryan Schuckman, freshman Colin Clark, freshman Logan Daniels and freshman Henry Fitzthum.
No. 1 Singles were played by Garcia, who ended up losing his first game against Maize (0-6) and not playing again after being beaten out of the bracket.
No. 2 Singles were played by Clark, who also lost his game against his competitor, Newton (0-6). Like Garcia, Clark was beat out in the first round and did not make it back to the bracket.
No. 1 Doubles were played by Fitzthum and Schuckman. Together, they did not end up winning a game, losing to Maize (0-6).
No. 2 Doubles were played by Alonso and Daniels, who ended up losing their first game against Salina Central (0-6) to end their play within the bracket.
“Regional match-ups were very difficult,” head coach Kayla Brown said. “We played well, but the teams we were up against were very good and made for difficult matches. With the loss of a couple of seniors, hopefully, we can gain some new faces next year and have the same size or a larger team. Hopefully, the skills that were gained this year we can continue to build upon and have a stronger team and individual player improvement.”
