Lady Indians add four wins to their record with wins against Colby, Liberal
On May 6, the lady Indians hosted the Colby Eagles and won both games; they won the first game, 10-6, and then run ruled the second game, 13-3, in the fifth inning.
The Indians led 4-0 after junior Brenna Schwien hit her first career home run and her team’s first home run of the year.
Schwien’s home run was one of her three extra base hits during the first game. Freshman Aubree Thomas pitched the game for the Indians and completed the game with a pair of strikeouts.
The second game had a totally of 15 hits for the Indians, with Schwien, junior Sydney Fagan, sophomore Morgen Berry and freshman Lakyn Zimmerman all having a multiple-hit game.
Thomas pitched the second game for the Indians as well, and she only allowed four hits.
On May 7, the Indians took the long trip to Liberal and brought back two wins. While the weather did not cooperate, they won the first game, 1-0, and the second, 12-3.
The first game was very anticlimactic, with the lone run being scored in the top of the seventh inning, after Zimmerman hit a fly ball, and the runner on third was able to score.
The Indians then obtained three outs and finished out the game 1-0.
The second game in Liberal started out with four Indians runs being scored and then Liberal rallying three runs of their own.
The Indians were then able to pull away and score eight more runs while playing tight defense and not allowing any more runs to score.
Thomas picked up the wins in Liberal with 16 strikeouts and three walks.
The Indians are now 12-5 on the season and are on a seven-game win streak. They will travel to Salina to play Salina South and Andover Central on May 11.
