Indians defeat rival; keep undefeated streak alive

Hays High’s senior Dalyn Schwarz is defending the goal against a Great Bend player on January 12th at Great Bend High.

The Hays High basketball team traveled to Great Bend to defend their undefeated season on their rival’s court.

Hays High started the game with a lob pass to junior Carson Keifer. The Indians turned the drive into an 8-0 lead. Great Bend coaching staff changed their defensive look to a 3-2 zone. Hays High finished the end of the first quarter with a 15-3 lead.

Great Bend called a timeout in the middle of the second quarter finding themselves in a 25-3. The biggest play of the game came from Hays High’s senior point guard TJ Nunnery with a steal and the slam dunk that would shake the entire goal. Hays High ended the half with a 28-10 lead over Great Bend.

Hays High never let Great Bend get any closer after halftime. The Indians basketball team pushed their lead to 42-15.

Hays High finished the game with a 51-24 lead over rival Great Bend.

Hays High moved to 7-0 and is 3-0 in conference play. The Indians will return to their home court on Jan. 15 to take on the 2-1 Garden City Buffaloes.
