Lady Indian softball sweeps Goodland in season opener

The Hays High School Indian softball team opened their season on Mar. 21 with a sweep at Goodland winning the first and second game with the scores of 14-0 and 18-2.

In the first game, the Indians scored three runs in the first and second inning, then five in the third and finished out the game with three in the fifth.

Throughout the game, the Indians had 15 hits with two homers my junior Madelyn Waddell. The Lady Cowgirls only produced two hits and both teams went errorless.

Senior pitchers Kaitlyn Brown and Jaysa Wichers split the game pitching. Brown went three innings with one hit and four strikeouts. Wichers pitched two innings and had one hit, one walk, and five strikeouts.

For the second game the Indian batted in four runs in the first inning, six in the third and fourth inning, the ended the games with two in the fifth.

Both teams produced two errors but the Indians had 19 hits while the Cowgirls only had five.

Brown and Wichers switched off for this game too. Brown went two innings this game with one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts. Wichers went three innings with four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

The Indians are 2-0 to start off their season and will be playing on Mar. 29 to take on Abilene.
