Senior Savannah Schneider scored a career-high of 26 points to lead the Indians to a 73-65 victory over the Salina Central Mustangs.

The Mustangs outscored Hays 21-16 in the first quarter and would continue to increase their lead in the first half to 39-26.

At half-time, the Indians knew they needed to make a comeback and would outscore the Mustangs by 16 points in the third quarter making the score 48-45. Going into the fourth quarter, it was anyone’s game, but the Indians would outscore the Mustangs by five points for an eight-point victory.

“Our intensity picked up a lot in the second half,” junior Isabel Robben said. “It felt like more of us were having fun.”

Other scorers included senior Jaycee Dale with 15 points and Brooke Denning with eight. Juniors Tasiah Nunnery and Robben and senior Mattie Hutchison threw in eight, seven and six points, respectively. Rounding out the scoring was senior Kallie Leiker with one point.

With the win, the team increases its record to 9-3 and will play Salina South at an away-game on Jan. 29.
