The cross country team departed to the Bob Schmoekel Cross Country Invitational at Junction City at 6 a.m. on Sept. 29th.

The girls placed fourth out of the eight teams and had one medalist, freshman Landri Dotts, 16th place. Sophomore Allison Shubert placed 21st, missing a varsity medal by one. Others who competed were junior Yesenia Maldonado, 27th; sophomore Claire Shippy, 31st; freshman Lainey Hardman, 33rd; sophomore Cristina Leos, 42nd and freshman Kambri Bogart, 43rd .

The top five girls had a pack time of 1:13, making it the season best for the lady Indians.

“For us to continue to improve as a team, we will need to continue to close our pack time,” Head Coach Jerold Harris said. “We felt that our ladies competed well again today.”

The boys finished in eighth place as a team. Senior Johnny Fuller lead them with a 34th place finish followed by junior Grant Brungardt taking 35th. Others who competed were freshman Brayden Hines, 37th; junior Connor Cunningham, 47th; freshman Landon Viegra, 51st; junior Nathan Erbert, 56th, sophomore Fernando Zarate, 57th.

The boys also had their best five person pack time of the season, 1:19. Harris said the coaches were also very pleased with how the boys competed.

“Even though the team score may not show it, we battled a tough course,” Harris said. “Many of our guys ran seasons best.”
