Indians fall to Scott City Beavers in season opener

The Indians try to run the ballagainst the Scott City Beavers in a game on Friday Sept. 1 in which they lost 26-8.

The Indians football team opened their season up on Sept. 1 against the Scott City Beavers at home. The Indians fought tough through the game, but fell to the Beavers, 29-8.
The first quarter was scoreless between the two teams. During the second quarter, the Beavers took a 3-0 lead off a 26 yard field goal. Approaching halftime, senior Hunter Brown intercepted a pass at the three yard line followed by a Beaver interception that was returned for a touchdown. The Beavers earned the extra point giving them a 16-0 lead.
Coming fresh out of halftime, the Indians forced a fumble but recovered it. Two plays after the fumble, junior Will Sennett completed a pass to junior Mason Ibarra for the Indians first touchdown of the game and the season. Following the touchdown, Brown completed a pass to junior Palmer Hutchison for a two point conversion to increase the story to 16-8.
The Beavers scored the final 13 points of the game to finish it with a 29-8 win.
In an interview with Hays Post following the game, coach Randall Rath said the Indians did a great job coming out of the second half, but the penalty had a huge dent in the second half.
