Girls basketball takes third place in Hays City Shootout

During the Lady Indian basketball game against Garden City on Dec. 1, sophomore Savannah Schneider blocks out for a rebound.

The Lady Indians basketball team started out its season Thursday with the weekend full of games in the Hays City Shootout.

The Indians beat the Garden City Buffaloes on Thursday to put them into the winners bracket. On Friday, the Indians lost to the Thomas More-Prep Marian Monarchs to drop into the losers bracket. On Saturday, the Indians beat the Great Bend Panthers to take third place overall in the tournament.

 

Hays 52, Garden City 34

Individual Scoring: Savannah Schneider 19, Mattie Hutchison 13, Talyn Kleweno 10.

“I thought we did a great job working through the nerves early,” Coach Kirk Maska said. “We just played like we were capable of playing.”

 

TMP 62, Hays 54

Individual Scoring: Schneider 18, Kallie Leiker 11.

“It was a fun game,” Maska said. “I thought the girls executed the game plan pretty flawlessly.

 

Hays 50, Great Bend 35

Individual Scoring: Jaycee Dale 14, Schneider 13.

“Some different girls stepped up today, J Dale had a great game, it’s going to kind of be that way for a while,” Maska said. “We’re going to have some different girls step up and play well.”

 

The Lady Indians will be in action again at home against Pratt on Dec. 6.
