Brooke Forinash qualifies for state in tennis

Senior Brooke Forinash qualified for state competition in singles after placing fourth in regional action in Lindsborg on Oct. 9-10.

Players are seeded depending on their ability and their past wins and losses.

In order to qualify, players had to win their first round, two out of three sets.

Forinash won 6-0 on her first set, then lost 1-6 on her second set, only to win tiebreaker 10-6 against Chapman which gained her two more matches.

After winning a second match against McPherson 6-0 and 6-3, Forinash was placed fourth overall and will go to the state competition in Winfield on Oct. 16.

Senior Sylina Zhang and junior Joslyn Dinkel played doubles and was seeded as a fill-in match, losing their firs match 3-9 against Chapman. They were unable to qualify.

Singles player freshman Sarah Wyse was seeded 14th and played the first seed in the first round. She lost her first game and lost her second one, only to lose the super tiebreaker in the third set. She played hard but was unable to secure a win.

Sophomore Gabby Gabby Taliaferro and freshman Brianna Forinash got drawn into the 8th seed as well and played the 9 seed. They won their first match against Colby, the first set went 6-4 and the second set, they won tie-breaker 7-5.

On their second and third matches against McPherson and Chapman, they were unable to secure a win.
