Indians claim WAC title with win over Dodge City
The Indian football team improved to 6-0 and claimed the WAC title after defeating Dodge City, 64-50, on Oct. 13 at Lewis Field Stadium.
The high scoring contest featured very little defense as the two squads combined for nearly 1,000 yards of total offense. Hays had 519 yards, while Dodge City piled up 449 yards.
The two teams battled to a 28-28 halftime tie, but the Indians broke things open in the third quarter, outscoring the Red Demons by a 21-7 margin to take a 49-35 advantage into the final stanza. The two teams then exchanged 15 points apiece in the final period to account for the final score.
The Indians now enter 4A district play and will travel to defending state champion Buhler. The Crusaders are 5-1 on the season.
