Football improves to 5-0 with Homecoming win

Coach Bo Black provides sideline instructions during the Homecoming game against Wichita South.

A week of Homecoming activities was made even better on Oct. 3 when the football team dominated Wichita South, 57-8.

The Indians compiled more than 500 yards of offense enroute to building a 21-0 first quarter lead and a 50-0 halftime lead, which forced a continuous clock for the second half. Another touchdown early in the third quarter provided a 57-0 cushion before South managed its first touchdown midway through the fourth quarter.

Senior Alex Delton completed 15 passes on 20 attempts for three touchdowns, the first of which came on the Indians first offensive play of the game, a 43-yard pass from senior Hayden Kreutzer to junior Connor Rule.

Delton scored on a 55-yard run to make it 14-0, followed by a 21-yard run by Kreutzer.

In the second quarter, junior Maddux Winter made it 28-0 on a 15-yard tote, followed by a short touchdown pass from Delton to Rule. With just over three minutes left in the half, Delton hit Rule for another touchdown pass. The final score of the half came on a 31-yard strike from Delton to Kreutzer with less than 30 seconds on the clock.

The final touchdown of the night came on a two-yard run by junior Isaiah Blackmon early in the third quarter.

The Indians, now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the WAC, will host Dodge City Friday night at Lewis Field. Dodge City is currently 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the WAC, so an Indian win would mean a conference championship.
