Hays opened its wrestling season on Dec. 7 with a first-place finish at the Campus Invitational.

Five teams were involved in the round robin dual tournament with Hays finishing with a 3-1 overall mark. The Indians defeated Campus, 37-36; Salina South, 42-25; and Wichita West, 36-34. The Indians lone loss came to Mulvane, 39-37.

Wichita West end up in second place, followed by Campus, Mulvane and Salina South.
Individually, three places were awarded in each of the 14 weight class and Hays posted top three finishes in nine.

First place went to Ethan Deterding, 182; Preston Weigel, 195; and Vincent Scott, 285. Earning second place honors was Ross Hattan at 120 pounds. Taking third were Isaac Zimmerman, 106; Russ Kohl, 145; Konner Buxton, 152; Kaelan Dietze, 160; and Kiowa Higdon, 170.

The Indians will travel to Colby for a two-day dual tournament on Dec. 13 and 14.
