Football team runs past Panthers in district opener
The football team opened up district play in impressive fashion as it cruised past Great Bend, 47-14, on Oct. 18.
The Indians compiled 412 yards of offense, 354 of which came on the ground against the Panthers. Senior Preston Weigel accounted for 196 of those yards on 32 carries to lead the ground attack.
After a scoreless first quarter, Hays exploded for 26 second period points to take a 24-14 lead into the halftime lockers. Hays scored a pair of unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter and another in the final stanza to account for the 33-point victory.
The Indians, now 5-1, will face Salina South, which is coming off a 55-27 win over Salina Central.
