The TV show “All American” offers an inside look of what high school students go through in their daily lives. Whether it be anxieties, athletics, music or various other topics, it shows the lows and highs of being a high school student from students’ perspectives.
In “All American,” the main character is Spencer James, who is based off of real-life National Football League player Spencer Paysinger. Spencer struggles with anxiety about sports and protecting his family from gang violence. In addition to that, Spencer just won a state championship at Beverly Hills High School. However, after winning the state championship, he decided to go back to his hometown high school of Crenshaw, Calif., where he begins his quest to put Crenshaw on the map by winning a state championship there. Unfortunately, the school principal has cut funding to the football team, which is another obstacle for the team to overcome.
Billy Baker, the old Beverly Hills coach, is now Crenshaw’s coach after he decided to go to Crenshaw when Spencer transferred to his hometown of Crenshaw. Another reason Billy decided to coach there is because Spencer’s dad, Corey James, suddenly died in the past year, so Billy decided to step up to take the reins of his alma mater, where he also played high school football.
The first four episodes of Season 3 are on the CW app for free with more to come. You can watch the first two seasons on Netflix with Season 3 being aired in March with all episodes available.
