Looking back 10, 20, 50 years ago
The Guidon staff has decided to include a monthly feature in which it will look through past editions of the newspaper to see the new events that were being reported ten, 20 and 50 years ago during each particular month.
Ten Years Ago
January 2008
- School starts using School Vue to see what students are doing on laptops.
- Students speak out about Homophobia in Hays.
- Cafeteria receives keypads to speed up the process of buying lunch.
- International club raises money for Burma Lifeline to assist refuges.
- The administration decide to get rid of the games assembly before Indian Call.
20 Years Ago
January 1998
- Drop out rates continue to rise.
- Volunteers team up with AmeriCorps and the library to tutor children.
- Students volunteer at local Humane Society.
- Football coach Larry Mills resigns.
- Students participate in local internships.
- Hays opens new Taco Bell.
50 Years Ago
January 1968
- Debaters place fifth in state.
- Daydream Believer by the Monkees hits number seven in the top ten tunes.
- Junior class has a chili feed at the local carnival.
- Washburn Vocal Choir performs at Hays High.
- Police talk to students about defensive driving.
