Looking back 10, 20, 50 years ago

The Guidon staff has decided to include a monthly feature in which it will look through past editions of the newspaper to see the new events that were being reported 10, 20 and 50 years ago during each particular month.

  • The school made the switch from macs to dells. The students complained that they were too slow.
  • Bryan Snyder Brown was named the first yell leader at HHS.
  • If you forgot your lunch card, you had to wait in a special line at lunch.
  • The Chamber Singers qualified for KMEA conference for the first time since 1981.
  • The price of water in the vending machines increases 25 cents to $1.25.
  • The price of gas raises.
  • DECA students travel to Las Vegas to appear on Jerry Lewis Telethon.

20 Years Ago
September 1997

  • The school obtained an internet connection for the first time.
  • Frisbee golf became a craze.
  • Y102 was a new country radio station.
  • The cafeteria received an Oceanspray cooler.

50 Years Ago
September 1967

  • They did not have an edition this month due to the fact that they did not start school until October.
