On Monday, Feb. 10, Hays High School orchestras hosted a student-led concert, which consisted of seven pieces conducted by students.
Every student player belonged to either the Chamber Orchestra or Philharmonic Orchestra. These students displayed their musical talents by performing music they have worked on for all in attendance.
The opportunity to conduct allowed students to work with others to learn how to conduct groups for an audience. For some, this was the beginning of their musical careers and offered a gateway into the future in the world of music.
Students conducting at the concert included seniors Caleb King, Ava Ruiz and Breckyn Wahlmeier; juniors Allison Goertzen, Loren Tervort, Canon Weber and Rose Windholz; and sophomore Isaac Bloom.
“My favorite part of the concert was being able to work with and learn more from our ensemble from a different angle,” King said. “I found it most challenging to be present with the ensemble while also being attentive to the timing and movements I worked on.”
